Your Town 2016 Schedule

Six News is going on the road again this summer, as WJAC's "Your Town" is back for the third year. On Fridays this June through August, we'll show off the hometown pride of ten different communities in our viewing area with live, on-location broadcasts of our 5:30 p.m. news. Each "Your Town" broadcast will feature the people and the businesses that make each area such a unique and special place as we showcase each community's history and heritage.

Bus driver fired after using A/C as punishment on special education bus

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A bus driver in South Carolina has been fired after parents say she turned off the air conditioning on a special education bus to punish the children on board. The incident happened in Lexington School District Two. The parents are demanding justice for their children. According to the National Weather Service, it was 91 degrees the day, and the driver, Patricia Douglas was accused of turning off the A/C on that special education bus during the ride home.

Engine issues prompt plane landing on Highway 501; 2 people on board

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — UPDATE: Plane that made emergency landing on Hwy 501 operated by flight school A plane landed Wednesday on Highway 501 in the Carolina Forest area due to engine failure, according to audio obtained from LiveATC.net. ABC15 listened to the live Air Traffic Control net audio between the tower and the pilot before the plane landed. The audio revealed the pilot said he had engine failure and he was going to land on the highway.

Former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines makes appearance at PSU; speaks out against transgender athle

University Park, PA (WJAC) — A speaker who some find controversial is claiming officials at Penn State University tried to "cancel” her event on campus. Riley Gaines, who's garnered national attention for her stance on trans-athletes, gave a speech Tuesday about what she labeled as "Real Women's Day." Gaines spoke on the HUB lawn early Tuesday evening and was met with backlash from counter protestors who did their best to drown out her message.

Puff Super Value robbed at gunpoint

ALTOONA – The Puff Super Value tobacco store in the Juniata section of Altoona was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning, police reported. Police said the description of the suspect in Saturday's incident is similar to that of a man seen in surveillance images from three other recent Blair County armed robberies. Officials said Wednesday those images show a suspect wearing what looks like similar clothing in each of the incidents.
