Making wishes come true: That's the goal of an annual event being held again this weekend in Cambria County. It's called Pickin’ For Wishes and it's the sixth year for the event. It's a bluegrass festival filled with music, food, games and crafts.

Man convicted of killing his girlfriend escapes from Pennsylvania prison

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — A man convicted this month of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in front of her children escaped Thursday from a suburban Philadelphia prison, authorities said. Danelo Cavalcante, 34, eluded guards at the Chester County Prison in West Chester before 9 a.m., and was seen nearly an hour later walking on a road near the prison, they said. A jury took just 15 minutes to convict Cavalcante of killing Deborah Brandao, his girlfriend of two years, at her home in Schuylkill Township in April 2021.

Market Basket sells ownership of store after 50 years

JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — The owners of the local grocery store Market Basket announced that they have sold the store after 50 years of service. "After careful consideration, we have decided to sell the family business to another Johnstown family, one with considerable experience in the grocery business.," the post states. Ownership of the longtime business has been sold to McAneny Brothers, a local wholesale company located in Ebensburg, who will take over on March 1.

24 displaced after lightning strike causes fire at State College apartment building

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — Two dozen students are displaced Monday morning after lightning struck an apartment building in State College Sunday causing it to catch fire, the Centre Region Fire Administration confirmed. The fire broke out at the Tremont Apartment Complex, which is on the 200 block of Vairo Boulevard. Officials say they were called to the apartment complex a little after 5:30 p.m. Sunday. They say the fire started in Building F.
