Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford reported the victim was 3-year-old Armani Shoemaker. WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — A Windber man is facing charges after punching a woman while she was holding a baby, driving away, crashing and then stealing beer from Sheetz, according to police.
Authorities say 38-year-old Shawn Stephens is facing simple assault, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children and DUI charges.
According to a criminal complaint, the incident happened Monday at a home along Locust Street when Stephens picked up the baby, threw the child to the woman and then punched her in the face.

William Caldwell will be taking over the reigns after Steve Tucker announced his retirement in June after 33 years. His retirement goes into effect Sept. 7.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — A woman is now in custody and charged with third-degree assault in connection to a brawl that broke out last weekend on a riverfront dock in Montgomery. There are now four people charged in the incident, including three men who turned themselves in earlier this week.
Mary Todd, 21, turned herself in Thursday. She is currently being held in city jail. Richard Roberts, 48, Zachery Shipman, 25, and Allen Todd, 23 are also facing third-degree assault charges.

The Humane Society of Cambria County held their first ever Clear the Shelter Adoption event this weekend.
This comes as the number of shelter animals has steadily increased since the pandemic.
Twenty-one animals have been adopted this weekend so far but 56 are still without homes.
The Humane Society urges people to give these animals a chance at a good life and to not give up on them.

BELLWOOD, Pa (WJAC) — The Bellwood-Antis public library's socially-distanced used book sale ends this Saturday.
The staff says community members have gone through books and materials sitting around and chose to help the library by contributing to the sale.
There are also tickets for basket raffles being sold, and prizes donated by local businesses.
The sale is one of the library's biggest fundraisers, with staff saying they've been able to raise up to $1,000 in the past.

DANVILLE, Pa (WJAC) — According to a company release, Geisinger announced that a third-party vendor, Blackbaud Inc, which provides "cloud-based data solutions for organizations nationwide, including the Geisinger Foundation," discovered that an "unauthorized" individual gained access to their system between Feb. 7 and May 20. Geisinger health officials say they have already begun notifying patients who may have been affected, but note that Social Security numbers and financial information were NOT stored in the specific database that was targeted.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (TND) — Harvard University’s governing body on Wednesday denied a faculty push to award degrees to 13 seniors undergoing disciplinary action for their involvement in a pro-Palestine demonstration on campus.

MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) — A man is facing homicide and other charges in the shooting and killing of one police officer, and the wounding of a second officer after they responded to a domestic disturbance call in western Pennsylvania.
Johnathan Jermia Morris — 31, of McKeesport — is charged in Allegheny County with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and attempted murder, and assault of a law enforcement officer in the shooting Monday afternoon in McKeesport, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of Pittsburgh.
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Greater Pennsylvania Military Preservation Association is working to bring a military museum to Legion Park. Organizers plan to build the museum in an open field to the left of the park's entrance. "My grandfather served in World War I, my father in World War II, I served and my son's also serving currently in the army," association president Thomas Gray said.

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — In Huntingdon County, the annual Three Springs Homecoming Carnival kicked off Thursday evening with the firemen's parade.
Military honor guard and the Huntingdon County sheriff's office led the way for volunteer fire companies from Huntingdon and Fulton counties.
Performing arts groups, church groups and local non-profits were also in the parade.

BREEZEWOOD, Pa. (WJAC) — Saturday, multiple fire crews battled a massive hotel fire in Breezewood until early morning.
Almost all of theEcono Lodge on Lincoln Highway was destroyed by the flames. It wasn't clear at first if the hotel was operational, but according to officials, it was.

Two Cambria County parents are facing charges after authorities allegedly found their children living in deplorable conditions.
On Thursday police responded to Joseph Williams’ and Amanda Stephens’ Grant Street home in South Fork after a report of garbage overflowing into the street.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, the home was littered with garbage, used diapers and other waste.
According to the affidavit, first responders had to wear hazmat suits and use air tanks to safely enter the home.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities with the Cambria County Humane Society say dozens of cats were rescued Monday from a local residence.
Officials say the Humane Society is now taking care of 59 cats involved in the "extreme hoarding" case.
The Humane Society says that the cats have a variety of health concerns and are in need of veterinary care.
Officials are also asking for food and other donations to assist in caring for the animals.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A man arrested in Franklin County last year was allegedly involved in a twenty-two-million dollar gold heist and firearms smuggling ring that police say is the sixth largest heist in the world.
Durante King-Mclean, 25, of Canada was stopped in Chambersburg on September 2, 2023 for allegedly driving the rental car.
According to the United States Attorney's office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania (USAO), Pennsylvania State Police stopped the vehicle in Franklin County after it committed multiple traffic violations.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa (WJAC) — State police say a trooper was shot early Saturday morning while conducting a traffic stop in Chambersburg, Franklin County.
According to a release, troopers initiated a traffic stop, around 2 a.m. Saturday, along the 1400 block of Lincoln Way E in Guilford Township for a driver suspected of driving under the influence.
The release states that after troopers made contact with the driver, identified as 20-year-old Robert William Ransom, an altercation occurred while the field sobriety test was being administered.

The 2017 tax cuts were one of the signature achievements of former President Donald Trump’s term and were highly contentious when making it through Congress. KENT, Wash. (KOMO) — Police in Kent, Washington are investigating an overnight shooting near a busy transit center that sent a man to the hospital.
A 32-year-old man, identified by officers as transient, called 911 after he said he was shot in the lower back and assaulted by at least four juveniles when leaving Kent Station just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspects stole his bag holding personal items and fled in a mid-sized SUV, police reported.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say two Johnstown teenagers have been charged for robbing a taxi driver at gun point in East Conemaugh Borough early Tuesday morning.
According to a criminal complaint, 17-year-old Joseph Camut III and 18-year-old Anthony Petak have been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy.
Additionally, Petak is a charge related to carrying a gun without a license.

SOMERSET, Pa. -- A Somerset County mother is in jail accused of sending her own young son on a drug deal. Authorities said it happened in an alley about five blocks away from their house, this past summer. Police say they found the boy sitting on his bike in an alley, waiting with prescription pills.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Central Cambria school board is weighing its options on how to proceed regarding a possible consolidation.
A feasibility study was made available to the public Monday evening, highlighting the district’s options moving forward.
The school board says option 1 is to continue to operate both elementary schools at status quo, which officials say would require a tax increase through 2026.
Option 2 would include integrating grades 3rd through 5th at Cambria Elementary, which the feasibility study found would save the district just shy of $500,000 in the first year alone and would come with a smaller tax increase than option 1.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WWMT) — A former pastor in Michigan has been sentenced in a sex crimes case where he paid teenage boys to engage in sex acts with his wife.
Stricjavvar “Strick” Strickland took a plea deal, pleading guilty to one felony count of transportation services for engaging in prostitution, and he was sentenced to one year in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Strickland made a 12-minute statement, saying he was not guilty of sexually abusing teenagers and paying them to engage in sexual acts with his wife.

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — A Tyrone man who was charged in a fatal DUI-related crash that killed a Warriors Mark woman has been sentenced, according to Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith.
Authorities say Richard Ewing, 43, was sentenced to serve 11 to 22 years in prison for causing the fatal crash on Route 350 that claimed the life of 59-year-old Wendy Reitz last June.
Police say Ewing was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Killingworth, Connecticut — A wildlife rehabilitation center in Killingworth, Connecticut shared some advice on social media on Monday: "birds don't let other birds fly drunk."
Watertown animal control picked up two black vultures who were in bad shape over the weekend.
When they got to "A Place Called Hope" rehab center in Killingworth, they appeared to be dying.
After a slew of tests, staff discovered that the birds were not sick, but drunk.

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Matt Canada is expected to return as the Steelers' Offensive Coordinator for the 2023-24 season.
Canada has one year remaining on his current contract and his expected return to the organization, in large part, can be credited to the team's overall improvement in the latter half of the season.
Pittsburgh finished 7-2 following their bye week, which included winning six of their final seven games, despite being near the bottom of the league in almost every offensive, statistical category.
BOSTON, Mass. (WJAR) — The Massachusetts man who received the world's first pig kidney transplant has died.
Massachusetts General Hospital announced the news Saturday, two months after the procedure. Richard Slayman of Weymouth made history after receiving the surgery.
The pig kidney had undergone genetic editing and the transplant operation took a team of surgeons four hours to complete, according to Mass General.
The pig kidney was provided by eGenesis of Cambridge, Mass.
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly made a trade for Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi.
As part of the trade, Pittsburgh is sending minor league pitcher Jack Hartman to the Rays.
Choi was a member of the Rays 2020 team that lost the World Series to the LA Dodgers.
Choi has played in over 400 games with the Rays, in 4-and-a-half seasons, tallying 320 total hits, which included 52 homeruns and 203 RBIs.
SEATTLE (KOMO) — More than 100 canines were rescued after the doggy daycare they were in caught fire in north Seattle Wednesday morning.
The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. and began inside the Dog Resort, a dog daycare and boarding business. Seattle fire officials believe the blaze began in the laundry area of the daycare.
A KOMO helicopter flew over the scene Wednesday and saw firefighters battling the fire and evacuating dogs from the business.
UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Police said a fatal crash near the Brookville-Sigel Exit on I-80 Monday happened when 23-year-old Urania Soria veered off the road.
Police said Soria, her 5-year-old passenger and another man, Otilio Perez, were killed in the collisions that followed.
All three were from Ohio. Police said Soria's vehicle was traveling east in the left lane of I-80, crossed the grass median, and spun clockwise about 90 degrees.
DUBOIS - As the region continues to experience frigid temperatures, auto shop owners in Clearfield County said it’s keeping their businesses busy.
Carney Cataldo, owner of Cataldo’s Collision in DuBois, said he is seeing more fender bender crashes because of icy roads.
“Between Christmas and New Year’s, we had 55 wrecked cars on site and a lot more are scheduled to come in,” Cataldo said.
Cataldo said he gets an increase in customers due to repairing cars from crashes on Interstate 80.

WESTMORELAND CO, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Greensburg say a 66-year-old man has died following an apartment fire in Hempfield Township last Sunday, according to a news release.
Troopers say the fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Humphrey Apartments, located at 512 Humphrey Road, in Westmoreland County.
The state police fire marshal determined that the fire originated in the victim's first-floor apartment, but the cause of the fire is still unknown, the release adds.

FERGUSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — A Ferguson Township police car needs repair after officers say a person used the vehicle as a trampoline in Centre County.
Police shared a video of the incident on their Facebook page Tuesday.
According to police, the 25-year-old was drug impaired when jumping on the car.

Officers say the person is not from Centre County and charges are pending.

Danelo Cavalcante, 34, eluded guards at the Chester County Prison in West Chester before 9 a.m., and was seen nearly an hour later walking on a road near the prison, they said.
A jury took just 15 minutes to convict Cavalcante of killing Deborah Brandao, his girlfriend of two years, at her home in Schuylkill Township in April 2021.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — Two dozen students are displaced Monday morning after lightning struck an apartment building in State College Sunday causing it to catch fire, the Centre Region Fire Administration confirmed.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Johnstown Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia has resigned, the team announced Monday morning.
Letizia has been a member of the Tomahawks' coaching staff for all 12 seasons, including 10 as the head coach.
During his tenure, the Tomahawks won 338 regular season games and an NAHL East Division title in 2018-19 season.
He was also named the National Coach of the Year following the 2018-19 season.

MEYERSDALE, Pa. (WJAC) — It’s been a decades-long road for Somerset County leaders to get Route 219 as a four-lane highway completely through the county.
Right now, that four-lane highway ends in Meyersdale where the road continues on a six-mile windy stretch to the Maryland border as a two-lane road.
Now they’re hoping to complete that.
Federal and county leaders celebrated Tuesday the $53 million of federal money that has been set aside to be used for planning, environmental regulation costs, and other pre-construction work like buying land rights, to connect the end of the four-lane expressway in Meyersdale, connect with Maryland’s four-lane Route 219 to Interstate 68.
HUNTINGDON - Crews are at the scene of a reported fire on state prison grounds at State Correctional Institution at Smithfield.
A Department of Corrections spokesperson said a fire broke out at the power house building in between SCI Smithfield and SCI Huntingdon.
The spokesperson said neither prison is in the parameter of the power house.
She said that the power house is still operational and is able to supply heat and water to both prisons.

Landon Strelko, a host at Pine Grill for the last year and a half, said he came to work March 12 and was having a normal day, but that quickly changed.
“I was just in the kitchen doing to-go’s and I came back and the waitress for the man over there was yelling if anyone knew CPR,” Strelko said.
Strelko said he became CPR certified just two days prior.

WASHINGTON (TND) — A 31-year-old Colorado woman who authorities said had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy and became pregnant with his child won't be facing jail time, according to reports. The Fountain Police Department said Andrea Serrano was arrested in July 2022 on felony charges, including sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, as well as sexual assault on a child. Police said she admitted to having sex with the teenager and was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. — Two people are facing felony charges after hiding a wanted fugitive in the attic of a residence in Somerset Thursday morning, state police say.
According to a press release, state police were attempting to serve a warrant for Kody Dunmeyer on the 300 block of Lavansville Road in Somerset when he was located hiding in the attic of the home.
State police Rusty Koval, 35, and Tiffany Weimer, 34, were the only two individuals located on the second floor of the home when they discovered Dunmeyer.

According to officials, a family of four pulled up to the Conoco gas station shortly before 9 a.m.

On Wednesday, questions remained about how exactly he got away and what's being done to prevent something like this from happening again.
Tuesday at 1 p.m. is when authorities say 36-year-old Craig Hauke-Miller completed his escape from the county jail.
According to the affidavit, police say surveillance video reportedly showed Hauke-Miller climbing a door and then the roof of the jail in order to pull of the escape.

Somerset County Children and Youth Services hosted an event on Saturday, in partnership with the statewide Adoption and Permanency network at Somerset Church of the Brethren.

(WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel has suspended the law license of Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas indefinitely as a sexual assault case against him continues to move through the courts. The per curiam order filed Wednesday states, "This order should not be construed as removing Respondent from elected office and is limited to the temporary suspension of his license to practice law."
Thomas has already taken a self-imposed leave of absence from the position since his arrest last month.

Daniel Sipes Jr. was one of two individuals arrested in early 2022 in connection to an arson investigation at a home along 5th Ave. in the city of Altoona.
Police say he and Maria Frye reportedly conspired to set the home ablaze in an attempt to kill the unnamed victim inside.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- A Johnstown man has been charged in three robberies that happened in April.
Corey Jackson, 48, is facing three counts of robbery, two counts of theft and two counts of receiving stolen property.
Johnstown police were investigating three robberies that happened April 13 at Pizza Deli Six Pack, Martins General Store and Carpenters Store.
According to an affidavit, police went to Pizza Deli Six Pack the night of April 13 and were told by an employee that a man came into the store and asked for two slices of pizza, and when the employee turned his back the man, later identified as Jackson, grabbed the cash register and fled the store.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers said Wednesday that they have signed first-round draft pick T.J. Watt to a four-year deal.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Watt, 6 feet 4 inches tall and 252 pounds, was the 30th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
He played collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin.
Watt appeared in 27 games, making 14 starts over a two-year span. Watt recorded 70 tackles, including 17 stops for losses and 11.
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Duquesne University honored more than 430 members of its Class of 2021 Friday at its winter commencement ceremony.
For one of those graduates, Johnstown resident Dr. Tom Fleming, commencement meant more than just receiving a degree.
In 2002, Dr. Fleming completed his coursework at Duquesne's School of Education but never finished his dissertation.
Years later, Dr. Fleming's son Ryan enrolled at the university.
Sadly, Ryan passed away from a rare heart condition in 2014 during his sophomore year.

The historical Laurel Hill State Park which features some of the last standing architecture from the civilian conservation corps has been vandalized.
The state parks maintenance team discovered the vandalism in August and State Police began an investigation immediately.
The buildings destroyed had immense historical and cultural value.
The destroyed architecture is irreplaceable since much of it was built in the 1930’s and building materials are no longer being produced.

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Nearly two weeks after the recent primary election, close to 100 mail-in ballots in Centre County are being challenged as to whether they are valid ballots that should be counted.
Election officials say 98 mail-in ballots were initially counted as valid by Centre County's election board, but they remain under review.
The issue is how the returned ballots were dated, or not dated.
On election day, the county's primary count center noted possible problems with how the ballots’ outer envelopes were dated.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) - Eight people -- including three firefighters -- were injured following a gas leak and two explosions in Northwest Portland Wednesday morning. Dozens of people were evacuated from three buildings in the area of NW 23rd Avenue and Glisan Street just after 9 a.m. due to a gas leak. A contractor had apparently nicked a gas line while working at a nearby construction site.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — Police are investigating after two "abnormally skinny" children were found knocking on a South Carolina door this week, an incident report states.
Officers said they responded to the 6300 block of Bay Road in Myrtle Beach around 12:30 a.m. on Monday in reference to abandoned children.
When police arrived on scene, a woman told them that she heard knocking on the building's door before seeing two children at the window.

Brennan H. Geller was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the death of her newborn Kimberly Faith Taylor.
Chief Administrative Judge Walton J. McLeod, IV, sentenced Geller following her guilty plea to homicide by child abuse.
Geller is not eligible for parole under South Carolina law.

SOMERSET CO., Pa. (WJAC) — According to Somerset County Dispatch, multiple emergency crews were called to a commercial vehicle accident Wednesday morning at the intersection of Jackson Street and Mason Dixon Highway.

An official with FirstEnergy said energy rates going up is not a done deal, but they are looking to have the prices raised next January.

Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — One man is dead after being ejected from his vehicle following a rollover crash in Colerain Township Saturday afternoon, state police said.
According to a press release, Toney Parsons, 66, was driving a Yamaha UTV south on Centennial Road just after 2:30 p.m. when he traveled off the side of the road for unknown reasons.

ALTOONA, Pa — A 20-year murder case is resurfacing after Kenneth Leighty has served almost seven years behind bars for the murder of Sherry Leighty.
In 2013, 14 years after Sherry Leighty disappeared, her father-in-law confessed to killing her.
Kenneth Leighty was sentenced seven to 14 years after being charged with homicide.
Sherry Leighty was 23 years old at the time she disappeared. She would be celebrating her 43 birthday this month.
PHOENIX (TND) — A woman who was arrested in connection to an arson and two murders was seen in surveillance footage showing "a very small amount of gas" being purchased at gas station. Katisha Susan Smith, 44 was arrested last week for her involvement in the April 27 arson at a Phoenix building that killed two people.

Brookville, PA — Around 3:00 Tuesday morning, firefighters were called to West Taylor Street in Brookville for a fire at the Brookville Hometown Market.
Fire crews from Brookville, Pine Crest and Reynoldsville helped battle the blaze and had the fire out by 4:30 this morning with no injuries.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Two Pennsylvania lawmakers say they are planning to introduce legislation that would designate March 13 as "K9 Veterans Day" in the Commonwealth.
Currently, several other states, including New Jersey, Florida, Michigan, and West Virginia, recognize the "holiday."
If passed, the legislation would require the Governor to issue an annual proclamation calling upon Pennsylvanians to observe the day with various educational activities and programs.

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Daryl Vincent Lee Jr. was found shot to death on the side of Route 403 in July.
Family of the 44-year-old said they did not get to have a funeral because his body was too decomposed.
They said they gathered Saturday afternoon to give themselves, and community members, a chance for closure.
"We didn't really have a chance to say goodbye," Lee's uncle Dwight Webster said.
Pennsylvania Game Commission officials have released the preliminary results of the first three days of the 2018 bear harvest.
The three-day total is 1,833 bears harvested, which the game commission said is a 12 percent increase over the 1,628 bears taken during the 2017 season’s first three days.
Officials said bears have been taken in 54 counties so far during the statewide season.
The top 10 bears processed at check stations either estimated or confirmed to have weights of more than 600 pounds, officials said.

WILDWOOD, Fla. (TND) — A police officer got called to a store “in reference to a retail theft” but after that, the case was anything but routine.
This happened at a Lowe's home improvement store in Florida. The officer arrived last Monday, May 6, but the theft happened two weeks before that, on April 22.
And that alleged theft may not have been the suspect’s last.
The store’s asset protection manager had done much of the work.
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A 14-year-old boy who is accused of shooting and killing a 12-year-old girl late last month made an appearance in Clearfield County court on Friday.
Aaron Klingensmith allegedly told state troopers that he pointed a gun at the girl and shot her on April 28th.
Klingensmith also allegedly told investigators that he has an understanding of guns and gun safety.
Authorities say he allegedly retrieved the gun from the top of a gun safe in the living room of a Brady Township home, along Bearfield Road.
Officials with the US Department of Labor are reporting that an area McDonald's franchisee has reportedly violated multiple child labor laws.
Authorities say an investigation revealed that Endor Inc., based in Cranberry Township, allegedly employed 34 juveniles, across five locations, and forced them to work longer and later hours than permitted by child labor laws.
“Fast food restaurants offer young workers an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, but federal law makes sure their experiences do not come at the expense of their education or well-being,” explained Wage and Hour Division District Director John DuMont in Pittsburgh.
STATE COLLEGE - Construction to one of Penn State's residence halls is bringing lots of problems for the university's model railroad club which has over 50 years of Penn State history represented in its projects. Now it has to find a new home, and that means leaving some special pieces behind.

UPDATE | Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman has identified the victim of Sunday's fatal motorcycle crash in Cherry Tree Borough.
Officials say 39-year-old William Roland Jr., of Westover, was killed Sunday night after crashing his motorcycle near the Indiana and Clearfield county line.
Investigators say Roland was ejected from the motorcycle after striking a utility pole.
Overman says that he suffered blunt force trauma to his chest and his death was ruled accidental.
DuBois, PA (WJAC) — According to a social media post from the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department, organizers announced Wednesday that the annual Community Days and Fireman's Parade events have been cancelled for this year.
Officials say the decision to cancel the events was due to "circumstances beyond control."
Organizers added that due to "time constraints and lack of donations," they are unable to organize and schedule entertainment for the event.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Food and Drug Administration wants pet owners to be aware of what's in their dog's food and how it could impact their pet's health.
It's continuing to investigate a connection to certain dog food ingredients and canine heart disease.
Many of the foods that are being investigated are labeled as grain free with main ingredients like peas, lentils and potatoes.
The investigation started in July 2018.
BEDFORD - Old Bedford Village has gained national attention after sharing on Facebook that six of its historic guns were stolen.
David Petit is the groundskeeper and a blacksmith at the village. He said sometime after midnight Dec. 14, someone broke into multiple historic buildings, including the General Store and the Rifle House.
"We've lost a piece of Bedford County history," Petit said.
Nothing was reported missing from the other buildings -- only the six rifles that were stored in a glass case for display.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Pennsylvania man who authorities say killed his girlfriend in a Nevada desert has been convicted.
A jury in U.S. District Court in Nevada on Wednesday found John Matthew Chapman, 44, guilty of one count of kidnapping resulting in death, court records show. He faces life in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 2.
Authorities did not release the woman's name. They say that after killing her in September 2019, Chapman pretended to be her on her Facebook messenger account and lived at her residence.
The Altoona Curve baseball team announced new owners on Wednesday.

The owner of a New Hampshire in-home daycare, Sally Dreckmann, was arrested on child endangerment charges.

AVOCA, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — TSA officers at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport intercepted a loaded .40 caliber handgun along with a total of 20 bullets in two gun magazines at the airport checkpoint on Thursday, officials said.
It was the first firearm that TSA officers have detected at the airport checkpoint this year.
The weapon was caught as the man, a resident of Georgia, entered the security checkpoint. The X-ray unit alerted on the firearm among his carry-on items.

WILLIAMSBURG - A teacher at Williamsburg High School has been charged by state police with having sexual intercourse with a student.
According to police, Nikki Varney, 44, has been charged with institutional sexual assault, statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with minors. Police said their investigation began after the school reported to police that Varney was in a sexual relationship with a male student.
The investigation led officers to discover that the sexual encounter between Varney and the student took place over the summer.

HYNDMAN, Pa. (WJAC) — The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its final report on the August 2017 train derailment in Hyndman, Bedford County.
The NTSB says the “inappropriate” use of hand brakes on empty train cars to control train speed and the placement of blocks of empty cars at the front of the train was the cause.
The report says, the CSX train was carrying a variety of cargo when 33 cars derailed from tracks along the Hogback Road Crossing.

The smoke plume could be seen for miles around.
Dozens of fire departments from across the region fought that inferno, which was spotted by an overnight maintenance worker in the G.C. Murphy store.
More than half of the stores inside the Logan Valley Mall were damaged or destroyed, putting hundreds of employees out of work just before Christmas.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Likely more than a dozen cars were broken into Wednesday night in Ferndale Borough, according to police.
The borough's police chief Adam Richards says they are still taking calls from people saying valuables, including money, wallets and phone chargers were reportedly taken out of the cars.

NEW YORK (TND) — Actor Steve Buscemi is said to be doing well and recovering after he was punched in the face during a random attack on the streets of New York City Wednesday. The news was first reported by the New York Post, which confirmed the assault with both Buscemi's publicist and the New York Police Department (NYPD). The department did put out a statement on the assault, granted without Buscemi's name on it, on the day of the crime.
UPDATE | Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of the early morning fatal house fire in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown.
Lees says 32-year-old Alexander Perring suffered thermal and inhalation injuries in the blaze.

LIGONIER - After more than a decade, Laurel Mountain Ski Resort officially reopened for skiing and snowboarding at noon Wednesday.
Several attempts were made over the years to open the resort. The ski resort plans to remain open for regular winter seasons after extensive renovations.
The resort had a complete makeover, both on the slopes and inside the lodge.
"We did take our time and complete all of that work," Communications manager Katie Buchan said.
BUSHKILL, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a New York City man died after falling off a tube he was using to float down the Delaware River in northeastern Pennsylvania over the weekend. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area said Sunday that the 51-year-old man, who was not wearing a life jacket, was with a group of people floating on tubes in the river, in Pike County, but became separated from them, fell into the water and went under.

PARK CITY, Utah (KUTV) — Gwyneth Paltrow is standing trial on Tuesday for an incident at a Utah ski resort that prompted a skier's lawsuit.
The trial is happening in Third District Court in Park City at 9 a.m. and is expected to last about a week.
The $3.9 million hit-and-run lawsuit was filed in 2019 by a Utah man who claimed he sustained a brain injury, in addition to multiple broken bones, after Paltrow crashed into him on the Deer Valley Resort slopes in 2016.
MARTINSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service is holding its second annual Emergency Awareness Day this weekend.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Under a new Pennsylvania law, repeated D.U.I offenders now face stricter penalties.
This past July, Act 59 of 2022 was signed into law changing the grading of certain offenses for those driving under the influence.
The new law is also known as “Deana’s Law” – a woman who lost her life because of a drunk driver in 2019.
An official WJAC spoke with says if these laws were implemented, Deana would still be here today.

TORONTO, Canada (TND) — Police in Canada are investigating a shooting outside pop rap star Aubrey "Drake" Graham's Toronto mansion that left one man injured, a law enforcement source told the CBC. According to the CBC's source, the victim was a security guard who was rushed to the hospital with "serious injuries" after an unknown individual drove up to the mansion's gates and unleashed a series of gunshots. The Cambria County municipal building, the Cambria County courthouse, and the Northern Cambria police building will open on Monday as safe zones.

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Huntingdon County say more charges have been filed against a Penn State professor who is accused of engaging in various sexual acts at a public park.
In June, police charged Themis Matsoukas after they say he was caught on camera at Rothrock State Forest engaging in sexual acts with his dog.
Authorities say following the initial investigation, police obtained search warrants for Matsoukas' electronic devices, where troopers reportedly discovered over 50 videos of Matsoukas engaged in various lewd acts at Alan Seeger State Park.
NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel posted on Twitter Thursday that his six-year-old son Henry passed away.

A federal lawsuit has been filed against a state police trooper in Clearfield County for allegedly using deadly force, resulting in the death of a 38-year-old man.
According to the lawsuit, in April of last year, Trooper Craig Hooven attempted to pull over Matthew Chelgren for an issue with the license plate on his vehicle.
The lawsuit states that Chelgren did not pull over, leading to a pursuit with state police.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Two men have been charged after an armed robbery earlier this month at the AutoZone in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown, according to police.
According to police, 23-year-old Juquette Charles, of Johnstown, and 18-year-old Gavin Hopkins, of Philadelphia, walked into AutoZone. Police say one displayed a firearm and they demanded money from the register.
They removed the money and then left the scene. They got into a waiting van in the parking lot of Team Collision Center.
A financial report states the Altoona-Blair County Airport had an operating loss of over $400,000 in 2023, but the airport manager said that number is out of context, and they had money in hand by the end of the year.
The Altoona-Blair County airport manager Tracy Plessinger said even though it is a smaller airport they manage about $42 million in assets, and those assets losing value is what makes it appear as if the airport lost money.

WORTH TWP, Pa. (WJAC) — State police said they are looking for a man who stole $100 worth of merchandise from an adult store.
They said the theft happened on Oct. 21 around 4 p.m. at the EZ Adult Playtime Boutique in Worth Township.
They’ve released a photo of the man they said was observed stealing the items.

CLEARFIELD - Approximately $40,000 in jewelry was stolen from Zalno Jewelers in Clearfield County, according to police.
Police said a group of individuals entered the store around 6 p.m. Thursday and distracted the staff while a man removed three trays of jewelry.
Authorities said the burglars wore the same clothing and black-rimmed glasses.
Once the man left the store, another man and woman drove away in what appeared to be a dark-colored SUV, police said.

JOHNSTOWN - Cambria County Children and Youth Services is looking for a runaway teen they believe is in the Johnstown area and may be with her brother, who is wanted in Allegheny County.
CYS said that Leona Toney, 16, ran away from a living facility in Greensburg on Aug. 19 after CYS placed her in the home.
She has brown hair and hazel eyes and is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weights roughly 150 pounds.
HODGES, Texas (KTXS) — A Texas family is counting their many blessings after a tornado ripped through their home last week. Kasey Lambert says her worst fear as a mother came true on May 2 as she and her husband Wes Lambert held onto their kids as tightly as they could while a tornado obliterated their home.

Auburn running back Brian Battie has been hospitalized following a weekend shooting in Florida, where his brother was killed and three others were hurt.

The Lehigh County district attorney said Wednesday that 30-year-old Ashley Caraballo is charged with criminal homicide, concealing the death of a child and abuse of a corpse.

UPDATE | Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say at least two people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a Coca-Cola truck collided with a horse and buggy in North Woodbury Township.
Officials say the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. in the area of Cove Mountain Road and Auction Road, near Martinsburg.

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Officials with the Pittsburgh Sports Museum announced that the four Super Bowl rings that once belonged to late Steelers' running-back Franco Harris are now on display at the museum.
Museum staff says that the rings, along with Harris' Hall of Fame ring, will now be featured as part of the "Super Steelers" exhibit. “As we continue to remember the remarkable life of Franco Harris, we thank his wife Dana and son Dok for sharing these important artifacts with the community,” said Anne Madarasz, director of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

MACUNGIE, Pa. (AP) — Mack Trucks plans to lay off 305 employees at its assembly plant north of Philadelphia. The company is blaming the layoffs at its Lower Macungie Township plant on a downturn in the heavy-duty truck market. The (Allentown) Morning Call says the layoffs will take effect at the end of February. The cuts represent about 13% of the plant's payroll. The layoffs were expected after Mack said last month that it would need to slow production to cope with reduced demand.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A judge has reinstated third-degree murder charges against a woman in a crash on a Philadelphia interstate that claimed the lives of two Pennsylvania troopers and a civilian earlier this year.
Common Pleas Court Judge Lillian Ransom’s decision Wednesday comes more than a month after a municipal court judge dismissed the charges against 22-year-old Jayana Tanae Webb of Eagleville, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Ransom cited previous witness testimony and tweets Webb is alleged to have sent that night along with video footage played in a previous hearing of the time-frame of the early morning crash on March 21 on Interstate 95.

CRESSON -- Plans to redevelop the former State Correctional Institution's property into a power plant fell through this week after the company that agreed to build it backed out due to the area's economy.
The Cambria County Redevelopment Authority had an agreement with Boston-based Energy Management Inc. to build a gas-fired electric generation plant where SCI Cresson once operated.
According to Redevelopment Authority Chairman Sam Piccioni, county leaders received a letter from Energy Management with the news Thursday night.

ESPN reported that Eaton died as a result of a bicycle crash.

Lancaster County, PA — A surprising call for one Pennsylvania animal rescue over the weekend, when a 'mystery' snake turned up in Manheim, Lancaster County.
The Forgotten Friend Animal Rescue says it got a call about the snake who had shown up in the same place four days in a row. The animal rescue says pictures indicated it was a snake usually found thousands of miles from Pennsylvania.
And sure enough, when they arrived, the reptile was a California Kingsnake.
WILKES-BARRE (WOLF) — We're learning more about the 74-year-old man from New Jersey who died after a skydiving accident in Monroe County over the weekend. Ed Harney of Paramus, New Jersey died yesterday after he jumped out of a plane to sky dive. We’re told it wasn’t his first time jumping with the Stroudsburg based Sky’s The Limit Center in Monroe County. Close friends of Harney tell FOX56, at 74 years old, Harney spent the warm months skydiving and the winters skiing.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man was freed from prison Tuesday after 37 years in a case marred by detectives who allegedly offered a witness sex and drugs at police headquarters in 1983 in exchange for false testimony.
The trial witness was charged with perjury just days after Willie Stokes was convicted of murder in 1984. But Stokes didn’t learn about that perjury plea until 2015, decades into a life sentence.

UPDATE | Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — State police in Indiana County say the suspect accused of robbing the S&T Bank in Homer City Borough on Wednesday has been arrested.
Troopers say the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Dylan Robert Clark Rider, of Homer City, is alleged to have presented a note to the bank staff and then left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

EVERETT – UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital responded Thursday morning to a Pennsylvania Department of Health citation that said staff members at the medical center took cellphone photos and videos of a patient being treated for a "foreign body" lodged in their genitals in December.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Virginia Department of Health is investigating an outbreak of gastrointestinal illnesses that's sending some to the ER.
The symptoms are similar to norovirus: severe abdominal pain, dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea.
VDH said the reports and information they have so far lead them to believe the outbreak is specifically at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
The cause of the outbreak is unknown, but VDH said they are trying to figure out the source.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Three days after the start of a massive wildfire in Jefferson County, fire officials say the wildfire is now contained.
It was only Wednesday when smoke and ash were billowing over one ridge that overlooks the Clarion River. Now a fire safety officer from the Allegheny National Forest tells 6 News that 90% of the fire's now contained.
The wildfire ravaged an area of forest about 25 minutes north of Brookville.
MILLHEIM, Pa. (WJAC) — Some businesses in Centre County came together to help an area fire company after it canceled its biggest fundraiser of the year.
The Millheim Fire Company canceled its annual fire company carnival due to pandemic restrictions. Firefighters say it's one of their major fundraisers that help them pay for insurance on fire trucks and equipment.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUUNTY, Md. — An Anne Arundel County elementary school teacher has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing eight students.
Matthew Schlegel, 44, was taken into custody Thursday morning at his home in Severna Park. He faces more than 30 charges, ranging from second-degree assault to sex abuse of a minor. Schlegel is a third-grade math teacher at Severna Park Elementary school.
According to charging documents, all of the alleged victims are current or former students of Schlegel, and the alleged abuse occurred in the classroom.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Clearfield County are searching for two men following an armed robbery late Wednesday night at the Nittany Minit-Mart in Coalport Borough.

The incident happened in Lexington School District Two. The parents are demanding justice for their children.
According to the National Weather Service, it was 91 degrees the day, and the driver, Patricia Douglas was accused of turning off the A/C on that special education bus during the ride home.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring Friday in Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania, the scene of the country’s largest and best known Groundhog Day celebration in the United States.

BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — A Tyrone man is facing a slew of charges related to gun and drug possession after police say they found him passed out in a vehicle at the Sheetz along Pleasant Valley Boulevard.
Logan Township Police say officers were dispatched to the Sheetz location around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a man passed out in a van near the air pump station.

UPDATE:Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — State Police have identified the man killed when a garbage truck backed into a tree on Wednesday.
Investigators say Nathan Kerstetter, 38, of Milesburg, was killed when he was reportedly struck by an overhanging tree near a driveway in Port Matilda Borough.
Centre County coroner Scott Sayers says Kerstetter suffered blunt force trauma to the head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Newberry Township Police officers found a live deer in the trunk of a car while conducting a traffic stop.
Police stopped the vehicle Thursday in the area of Old Trail Road and Old York Road around midnight.
The driver was suspected of driving under the influence, according to authorities.
Police say the officer noticed the deer in the back of the car. The driver and passenger of the car told the officer they hit the deer and placed it in the trunk, thinking it was dead.

BOSTON (TND) — Massachusetts has spent nearly $400,000 on “vaccine record reviews” for migrants and other individuals staying in its emergency shelters, according to a state report obtained by the Boston Herald.
The findings came as part of a biweekly report on the shelter system released by state finance officials. The document reportedly disclosed the state has spent $381,000 since September 2023 on immunization review expenses alone.

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Ebensburg are investigating a recent string of burglaries at the Mainline Pharmacy location in Hastings, according to a post from Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers.
Authorities say the first burglary occurred on the morning of June 7th, and that an unknown male entered the pharmacy, by smashing through a glass door, and stole various medications.
On June 25, police say an unidentified male was observed outside the pharmacy prior to smashing the glass door.
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Spuds, a nine-year-old pitbull, lives with his family along Third Avenue in Altoona.
"Spuds is a protector," his owner, Leroy Rucker, told 6 News.
On March 24th, the rescue dog helped rescue his own family, when someone uninvited came knocking.
"I was just sitting in here watching TV with the dogs like I always do," Rucker said.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The largest wildfire in western North Carolina is getting bigger. The Collett Ridge Fire is burning in Cherokee County near Andrews and, despite light rainfall, is threatening several structures.
It now encompasses more than 5,000 acres and is still only 5% contained.
“At this time, the Collett Ridge Fire is currently at 5,116 acres,” U.S. Forest Service spokesperson Adrianne Rubiaco said.
She said 178 firefighters are on the scene near Andrews, responding from near and far, even from California, to put the fire out.

Police say 15-year-old Devon Pfirsching was shot to death in February near Jefferson Park after a group of teens staged a robbery. According to a criminal complaint, 16-year-old Omedro Davis was arrested Sunday on charges of second degree murder and more after police allege he bought the gun that was used to kill Pfirsching.
OKALOOSA ISLAND, Fla. (WPMI) — One day after after Michael Stadther reported his ice cream truck missing and posted it on Facebook, the truck has been found.
"Facebook found my truck," Stadther said. "I can't believe how many people shared it and knew about it." His original post about the truck was shared over 500 times and was also shared by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
Stadther told NBC 15 that as soon as he found it was stolen from his lot in Okaloosa Island, he contacted police and put it on Facebook for help.

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) — The National Weather Service has confirmed eight tornadoes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey during Thursday's storm, including the EF-3 storm in eastern Pennsylvania and an EF-2 tornado that started in the Keystone State and then moved into the Garden State. Authorities in Bucks County said the EF-3 tornado that contained top winds of 140 when it struck Bensalem, damaging an auto dealership and a mobile home park.
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Blair County say an Altoona murder suspect is facing another batch of charges after another homemade weapon was reportedly found inside his jail cell.
According to the latest affidavit, Hollidaysburg Police were contacted last month by the Deputy Warden of the Blair County Prison after a wire-like weapon was found in the cell of 52-year-old Raymond Oechsle.
Oechsle was initially arrested last April after police say he was found living with the corpse of his neighbor, for three days.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — An employee who works at the Outback Steakhouse location in Altoona has the coronavirus, according to restaurant officials.
A company spokesperson confirmed the employee’s positive COVID-19 test result to 6 News via email.
“Once the management team learned of the positive result, they brought in a professional cleaning company to thoroughly sanitized the restaurant,” the spokesperson wrote. “They also quarantined anyone who worked in close proximity with the employee.
Emergency officials throughout our area have received numerous calls for flooded roadways as heavy rainfall continues to fall.
Multiple rounds of heavy rain have moved through the area over the past few days. HARRISBURG – The Office of Inspector General filed welfare fraud charges against 63 individuals in August, including seven with local ties, officials said Tuesday.

In honor of Trooper Monty Mitchell, Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered the commonwealth flag to half-staff on all commonwealth facilities, public buildings and grounds in Clearfield and Jefferson counties.

Westmoreland County, PA — Authorities say two juveniles who escaped from the Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Facility over the weekend have been caught.
Police say 14-year-old Robert Anthony Cogdell and 16-year-old Braedon Matthew Dickinson were reportedly captured overnight in Fayette County.
Troopers say the pair escaped from the facility Saturday evening.

The 2nd annual Appalachian Winter Classic volleyball tournament began Saturday looking to raise money for two local high school programs according to the organizers.
Owner of Appalachian All-Star Volleyball Joseph Camut said proceeds this year are going toward supporting the Forest Hills boys volleyball and Portage girls volleyball teams.

Jacob Kennedy, 23, has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and numerous traffic offenses. Johnstown police said they were responding to a call about a reckless driver in the area of Ideal Markert on Walnut Street just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) -- Altoona police were dispatched to Popeyes on Plank Road Friday morning for an overnight burglary. The store manager reported at total $300 was stolen from two cash registers in the store and one of those registers was gone, according to court documents.
Police said security cameras captured several suspects entering, one through an unlocked rear door and one through an unlocked lobby door.
Altoona police later learned two of those men, Khiry Cannady and Joshua Gregg had been stopped by Logan Township police the night before with a partially pried open cash register, latex gloves, a hammer and a 22-caliber handgun.
LAS VEGAS (TND) — Super Bowl LVIII will feature a performance of Lift Every Voice and Sing, dubbed the "Black national anthem," alongside performances of the Star-Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful, the NFL announced Thursday.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Police in Clearfield County say a student at Soaring Heights School, located in Hyde, has been charged as an adult after he reportedly attacked another student with a pair of scissors.
Authorities say the student, who we are not identifying due to his disability, is alleged to have "tackled" the 12-year-old victim to the ground and attempted to "cut" the victim's neck with the scissors.
JOHNSTOWN -- The Daisytown Sportsmen's Club, along with the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation, held a competitive shoot today for all ages.
It's the third annual "Fire on the Mountain" event.
Gunfire is a welcome sound to those at the club.
Once a year the club hosts people of all ages to compete, or even learn how to shoot in a fun, friendly and safe manner.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A former Penn State student who was charged last year with vandalizing the Nittany Lion statue at the University Park campus has been approved for an ARD probation program in Centre County court.
Police say Julia Cipparulo admitted to breaking off one of the lion's ears and splashing red paint on it.
Officials say the court program also requires Cipparulo to undergo a mental health evaluation and pay nearly $42,000 in restitution to the university.

The Ferguson Township Police Department issued an updated press release Thursday regarding the armed bank robbery that occurred March 23, at 3:48 P.M. Police say the suspect parked a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, rode a black bicycle to the bank to commit the robbery, rode back to his vehicle and placed the bicycle in the rear of the vehicle and fled the scene.
The manhunt for a man wanted in connection with the disappearance of Alabama student Aniah Blanchard was arrested Friday night in Florida.
U.S. Marshals in Montgomery, Alabama called the U.S. Marshals after receiving a tip that 30-year-old Ibraheem Yazeed was possibly in Escambia County.
Auburn Police Department identified Yazeed as a suspect and issued a first-degree kidnapping warrant Thursday. They identified him as dangerous and possibly armed.
U.S. Marshals told us they converged on the area and spotted him wearing all black, and called the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

Troopers say 19-year-old Cameron Raubaugh reportedly called 911 to report a robbery in the parking lot of the campus' George P. Miller Stadium.
According to the affidavit, when police arrived on scene, the responding officer encountered a masked suspect who was wielding a knife.
Police say the suspect allegedly charged at the officer, resulting in the officer firing one round from his gun.

DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — The American Rescue Plan injected some much-needed money to all the states, especially for education.
Dubois Area School District announced that it plans to direct some of that grant money toward assisting their homeless students.
A Dubois Area principal told us there are about 70 homeless students in the school district.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — Officials with Richland School District held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony Friday for its new tennis facility.
The facility now stands at the site of the old Rachel Hill Elementary School that was shut down and later demolished.
The project cost the district nearly $650,000, but leaves the district with six regulation tennis courts, two of which are for public use.
District officials say there were able to get more than just the tennis courts.
BEDFORD CO, Pa (WJAC) — Detours have been announced for a section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bedford County this weekend, as crews will be working to remove a bridge, according to an announcement from the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services.
The Turnpike will be closed, from Saturday, March 20th, at 11 p.m., to Sunday, March 21st, at 6 a.m., between the New Stanton (Exit 75) and Breezewood (Exit 161) exits.
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Walmart has announced plans for a large fulfilment center in central Pennsylvania that the company says will bring as many as 600 permanent full-time jobs to the area.
Walmart said the 1.8 million-square-foot-plus facility in Franklin County’s Southampton Township near Shippensburg is scheduled to open in the spring of this year.
Fulfillment centers store millions of items that are picked, packed and shipped directly to customers, unlike the company’s distribution centers that store and distribute products to Walmart stores.
The EBT foundation has finally restored their 107 year old steam engine right here in Rock Hill Furnace PA. The event is a part of the 2023 winter spectacular which is a long-standing tradition for the railroad. This year is the debut of the 1916 steam locomotive that’s been under restoration for three years.
“The railroad closed in 1956, reopened as a tourist railroad in 1960," said Jonathan Smith, director of sales and marketing at the East Broad Top Railroad.
A potential new storage facility might be coming into the old Sears building in the Johnstown Galleria.
The Johnstown Galleria owner, Leo Karruli, posted on Facebook last week that the former Sears location was sold at an auction – and the company that won the bid wants to open a storage facility. Although it’s connected to the Galleria, the former Sears building is owned separately. On Monday, the Richland Township board of supervisors held a regularly scheduled meeting and Karruli and some supporters attended in order to voice their concerns.

Thursday was the grand opening for Slingers Throw House in Altoona.

Each lane features two wooden targets and the goal is to get that axe to stick.

University Park, PA (WJAC) — Opening at Penn State on Friday, the All-Sports Museum will be hosting a new exhibit called "I am a Penn Stater: Nittany Lions in World War II."
The exhibit will be open through June 1, 2025, in the museum's second-floor changing exhibition gallery.
It features more than 1,200 Nittany Lion varsity lettermen and women's recreation association athletes during the war, following them from their training, to fighting or working with the Red Cross, and onto postwar occupations.
CLEARFIELD - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Clearfield County DUI Task Force, local law enforcement agencies and pizza shops are encouraging safe and sober driving this Super Bowl weekend.

PUNXSUTAWNEY - State police in Punxsutawney have charged a former teacher at Soaring Heights School in DuBois with institutional sexual assault.
According to police, an investigation discovered that Megan Bartley, 29, of Anita, was having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy at a house in McCalmont Township.
Police said the relationship was going on prior to Bartley being fired by the school.
The relationship had been going on for several months, and the encounters happened at the home in Jefferson County, according to police.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The Blair County War Veterans Council is calling for veterans to participate Monday in the Altoona Memorial Day Parade.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. and lineup begins at 9:15 a.m.
Veterans can walk in the parade, but cars will also be available for those who feel more comfortable riding.

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Port of Seattle has released a series of videos to KOMO News that show the moments leading up to and during the takeoff of a Horizon Air plane at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport that was stolen by a baggage handler before he intentionally crashed the plane.
The videos were released under a public records request submitted by the station that display the final acts on Aug. 10, 2018 of Richard Russell, 28, before he was killed.
